Tomlinson, MD passed away quietly Tuesday night after a protracted illness. Wally served as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the School of Medicine from 1977 through 2002. Following his medical education at Baylor College of Medicine, Wally came to Tulane for his residency prior to joining the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology. Wally was the consummate student advocate and a dedicated medical historian. Wally continued to assist with the Admissions Committee after his retirement and will be remembered through the Wallace Tomlinson Lecture, given annually at the White Coat Ceremony. Wally is survived by his wife Lynne. A viewing will be held at Lakelawn Cemetery on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 with mass immediately following. There will be a repast at the Tomlinson home. He was born in Houston, Texas to his late parents Edna Kuehn Tomlinson and Allan John Tomlinson. He is survived by his beloved wife Lillian Jahncke Tomlinson; brother Allan John Tomlinson Jr.; sister Carole Tomlinson Duncan; three nieces and four nephews. Dr. Tomlinson graduated from the University of Texas (Austin) in 1959 with degrees in zoology and history. He graduated from Baylor Medical School in 1963 and came to New Orleans for specialty training in Psychiatry and Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine. In 1977, Dr. Tomlinson accepted the position of Associate Dean of Medical Students at Tulane University School of Medicine, a position he held for 25 years. Dr. Tomlinson was not only a loving husband, brother and uncle, but also a mentor to and advocate for many Tulane University medical students. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11am on Saturday, 9 July at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans LA 70124. Visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Mass from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Lake Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in honor of Dr. Tomlinson.
