Miller, 91, passed away July 19, 2017 in Garden City, Utah. He was born December 21, 1925 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Gene grew up during the Great Depression and Roaring 20's. Gene attended Utah State University until he served in the U.S. Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He continued at USU and finished his Bachelors (soil chemistry) Degree in 1950. He was then called on a LDS mission to Germany, where he found his beautiful wife Edeltraut and was married in the LDS SLC Temple in1953. Gene received his Master's degree in 1954 (USU) and his Doctorate Degree (Plant Bio-Chemistry) from North Carolina State University in 1957. He was a professor for over 30 years teaching plant physiology, mineral nutrition and plant biochemistry as well as Head of the Biology Department at USU. He was founder and Dean of Huxley Environmental Sciences at Western Washington University. He wrote over 150 scientific papers and be-came an expert in plant and soil nutrition. After retiring from USU he started Baicor, working in the plant and soil industry creating products. His life works was his passion and finally retired upon this obituary. His legacy lives on. Gene enjoyed being active, spending time with family and friends, planning new life's adventures. Gene was preceded in death by his parents George and Leah Miller, his siblings: Lewis Miller, Elaine Rimmasch, and Calvin Miller. He is survived by his loving wife Edeltraut Ruth Miller and children: Cindy (Jimmie) McLaughlin, Pat (Ken) Klingberg, Wayne (Katya) Miller, Mike (Mellanie) Miller and Elke (Da-vid) Brown. Grandchildren, Kayla Klingberg, Jessica Kwak, Carson Brown, Cory Miller, Sydney Brown, Liza Miller and Maksim Miller; Great Grandchild Ahri Kwak. Extended family: Kayla Henderson and Margaret Brunner Funeral services will be held Thursday July 27 at 12:00 pm in the Providence 6th Ward chapel, 262 East Canyon Road Providence. Viewing held on Wednesday July 26 from 6:00-8:00pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan and at the church on Thursday from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Graveside services at Garden City Cemetery, 449 West Logan Road, at 2:30 (Hwy 89 take right after Chevron Station). Family and friends are invited to the Jim & Cindy Mclaughlin residence at 250 Falula Rd. in Laketown, Utah 84038 for Celebration of Life after the graveside service.
