Notes for this person

Nowe, Doreen Louise - To the World she was just a person, but to her family she was the World. It is with heavy hearts the family announce the passing of Doreen Louise Nowe, of Centre, who passed away with her family by her bedside at Habour View Haven on October 9, 2011. Born in Stonehurst, on November 20, 1936, Doreen was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Whynacht) Knickle. At the age of 16, Doreen was employed at National Sea Products, Lunenburg for 15 years in the cooked fish department. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, First South. Doreen is the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, Eric, daughters, Donna (Daryl) Sampson, Rhodes Corner; Diane (William) Tanner, Spectacle Lakes; sons, Danny (Lynn), Dayspring; Darren (Shauna), Upper LaHave; grandchildren, Jillian, Devyn, Kelsey Lynn, Ryan, Brittany, Sam, Noah, and William. She was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Knickle. Doreen loved her children dearly and cherished her grandchildren. Her strength and passion for family kept her children close and she always felt blessed. Because she held her family close, the cookie jar was never empty and the fridge was always full. If you stopped by to visit, you had to stay for supper. You could find her outside playing hockey or throwing a ball to her grandchildren. Doreen was very vibrant and full of life. There was no job too difficult. You could find her chasing kids or chasing geese. She was as someone once quoted “One Awesome Lady.” Doreen had a wonderful sense of humour. She was always there to lend a helping hand and her neighbours could always count on her. She was very kind and caring. We are all blessed to have had her in our lives. Doreen enjoyed the Spring and Summer. She loved to garden and she took great pride in her flowers. Flowers brought her lots of joy and happiness. In the Fall, harvest time was always busy whether it be canning, pickling, plucking, or carrying wood. There was nothing she wouldn’t tackle as many of her friends would know. Doreen was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church, First South. Even when she became very ill, she still looked forward to Sundays so she could attend church. Doreen spent many hours preparing for Grace Church and The Lunenburg Rod & Gun Club Suppers. Suppers were a time to get together with friends from the community and she loved to socialize. A Celebration of Doreen’s Life will be held on Wednesday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, First South. Rev. Vivian S. Roberts officiating. Interment at Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre. Arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, First South, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
