Aus Find A Grave: Luvern Julius “Buster” Zorb GEBURT 22 Mai 1922 TOD 10 Jan 2008 (im Alter von 85) BESTATTUNG Saint John Cemetery Saint John, Whitman County, Washington, USA GRABSTELLE Section W Lot #163 GEDENKSTÄTTEN-ID 24053446 ZORB, Luvern Julius "Buster" A lifelong resident of St. John, WA, Luvern Julius Zorb, "Buster", passed away on January 10th, 2008 after a brief stay at the Waterford nursing/rehab center in Spokane, WA. Luvern was born May 25, l922 in St. John, WA, the eldest son of Octive and Julius Zorb. He attended school at Ewan, Kamiak and graduated from St. John High School in l941. He was employed by several farms in the area and then went to work in 1964 for what is now the Washington State Department of Transportation, maintaining the road from Steptoe to the Lincoln County line. He was described, by his superiors, as "a one man crew out of the St. John Maintenance Shed." He retired June 30, 1982. Buster, a bachelor, lived with and cared for his mother at their home in St. John until her death. In his retirement years he enjoyed his motor home and boat and continued to hunt and fish and spend time with his draft horses and mules. His love for draft horses and mules involved participation in Threshing and Plowing bees in and around Whitman County and Waitsburg, and many parades throughout the area. In l991 Bus became a member of the Wenaha Log Trough Gang that built watering troughs in the Wenaha Tucannon Wilderness. The troughs were hand crafted from select trees that they fell and then were dragged by horse teams to the selected locations. The log was then carved and burnt out and treated to hold water. His quiet and gentle demeanor was evident over the many years that he was involved with helping the Horse 4-H group in St. John and was also active in the local Boy Scout leadership. He took many on horse packing trips into the mountains, traveled distances to be involved in their home town parades, took several on deer and elk hunting trips and fishing trips. He was loved and admired by many nieces and nephews and many others that adopted him as "Uncle Bus." He is survived by siblings Doris (Bob) Teal, College Place, WA, Mamie (Loren) Blumenshein, St. John, WA, Robert (Eileen) Zorb, Spokane, WA, and George (Colleen) Zorb, San Mateo, CA; sister-in-law Shirley Zorb, Colfax, WA; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Octive Lucille, November 1975, his father Julius John, July 1945, and brother Norman, May 2005. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19th, 11:00 am at the Methodist Church in St. John, WA, Rev. John Weston will officiate. A dinner following the memorial will be held at the St. John Community Bldg. Memorial donations may be made to the Luvern Zorb Endowment Fund, St. John-Endicott School Foundation or a charity of your choice.
