Baker, 96, of Leechburg, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in Charles Morris Nursing Home in Squirrel Hill. He was born May 30, 1916, in Duquesne, to the late William and Katherine Burger Baker and had lived in the Leechburg area most of his life. Walter was employed as an auto mechanic for Peoples Natural Gas, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Real Life Church A-G in Arnold. Walter enjoyed any mechanical work, wood working, hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Swank Baker; brothers, Bill and Howard; and sisters, Helen and Elsie. Survivors include son, Jonathan (Mary) Baker, of Montoursville; daughter, Anna (Donald) Adkisson, of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Kathleen Tuttle, of Pittsburgh; son, Jeffrey (Cindy) Baker, of Wellsboro; a sister, Theona Hanz, of Lower Burrell; a sister-in-law, Connie Baker, of Lower Burrell; seven grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Family and friends will be received from 1 until time of service at 3 p.m. Friday in the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell. His son, the Rev. Jonathan Baker, will be officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. Burial in Brookland Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Association, 100 Liberty Ave., Suite E201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
