On September 1, 1956 Dorothy married Stanley Settje at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Columbus. Dorothy worked for several years at Consumer Public Power. She also did home improvement work, which included painting and staining. Dorothy was very active at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh. She was a Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years and was also involved in the Orphan Grain Train.
