She was born June 28, 1927 on a farm near Woodworth, ND to August Weber and Emma Bochinski Herman. After the tragic death of her mother in 1929, she joined the family of Rudolph and Caroline Leapaldt, her Godmother. Elda became a permanent resident of Olympia in 1948. While working at the Hotel Olympian, she met Dean R. Holmes, of Olympia, and they were married August 26, 1950. She was a graduate of Dietz Business College and worked as a medical receptionist and dental assistant until retiring in1989. Elda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 68 years, where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years, served as a trustee, and was an active member of the Altar Guild. A devoted wife, mother, and grandma, caring for her family was always Elda's first priority. She was an avid Seattle Mariners fan, and watched every broadcast game. She enjoyed going to concerts, local theater and musical productions, and on outings with her tour groups. Her favorite musicians were Alan Jackson, Daniel O'Donnell, and Celtic Thunder. She also enjoyed camping, gardening, canning, and making pickles.Elda was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents; brothers, Carl Herman, Alfred Herman and Julius (Joe) Herman; and sisters, Lydia Herman, Alma Bohnet, and Ann Hinger. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery.</span></p>
