Frederick Koester was born near Bremen, Germany in 1871 and emigrated with his parents in 1880. The family farmed in Iroquois County, Illinois. In 1904 he was married to Anna Seggebruch and farmed near his parents. Anna's family emigrated from Stathagen, Germany in 1853 and settled near Crete, Illinois. In Jan. 1922 Frederich brought his family to OtoeCounty, Nebraska. Anna was in poor health and Nebraska climate was considered better for her. The family traveled to Nebraska by train, the farm implements and 5 milk cows in a box car. The hired man traveled in the train caboose and had to feed and milk the cows. The family car, a "Glide Six," manufactured in Peoria, Illinois, was driven to Nebraska byneighbors. Fred and Anna bought a farm in section 11 of North Branch Precinct and settled there with their six children - Mathilda, Alma, Edwin, Arthur, Wilbert and Clarence - ranging in age from 16 to 3 years.
