Eleonore Margarethe Schmidt was born on the 15th day of March 1862, inGermany and passed away at the home of Henry Merz, northwest of Newkirk, May 16, 1923, attaining the age of 61 years, 2 months and one day.
She was baptized the 30th of March, 1862, in her early infancy, instructed in God's word, confirmed and remained a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church till her death.
In 1878 she was united in marriage to Henry Antholz at New York City, with whom she had sailed to America. The journey was continued west to Southeastern Nebraska, where they located on a farm in Johnson and Nemaha counties. To them eleven children were born, seven boys and four girls, three of whom died in infancy.
Since the the 20th of June, 1907, she made her home with her daughter,Anna, married to Henry Merz. With this family she came to Oklahoma, Dec. 11, 1910, northwest of Newkirk.
She was sick a great deal in her life and a number of years prior to death, she was in poor health, her last ailment being perhaps most severe, Bright's disease.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and six sons, living in Rawlins county, northwestern Kansas, her daughters, Mrs. Henry Merz andMrs. Dan Hoffman, northwest of Newkirk, eight grandchildren and a brother and sister living in Germany.
Short services were held at the home of Henry Merz Saturday afternoon,May 19th, followed by the funeral services proper at the Lutheran church with Rev. J. Vollstedt, officiating. Burial was in Newkirk cemetery.
