August Friedrich Fick was born in Kunow, Kr. Saatzig, Pommern, Prussiato Christian Friedrich Fick (1792-abt 1860) and Dorothea Maria Stöhr (1790-1868). He was the youngest of 7 known children.
August and two brothers, Carl/Karl Friedrich Fick(1831-1897) and Christian Friedrich Fick (1823-1902) came to the United States in the 1860s and 1870s.
Carl settled in Clinton County, Iowa and was a carpenter and Christianwent to St. Joseph, Missouri where he was a wagon maker.
August and his wife, Anna Sophia Krause (1837-1923) came to the U.S. in1864 and lived in Chicago where August was a carpenter until early 1880. Then, with their family of 4 children, they went west to Cherokee County, Iowa, where they carved a farm out of the prairie. Their farm wasalways known as Evergreen Hill Farm because of the 120 evergreen treesthey planted on the high hill.
The four children, August, Carl, Fred and Anna grew to manhood and womanhood in the small German community of Hanover, attending the local Hanover Lutheran Church and school.
August F. Fick prospered as a farmer until his sudden death 12 September 1901.
