Katherine Marie HORNBOSTEL

On 6-6-1942 Katherine Fastenau passed away. She was born on 12-5-1862 in Meinholz, Germany.

At the tender age of 2 years she lost her father, and when she was about 5 years old she lost her mother. The orphaned child was provided a good home by her aunt and uncle, who cared for her as for their own child.

In 1885 when her sister, Mrs Henry Renken with her husband and son Henry decided to come to America, and she accompaniaed them. They located in Otoe County, Nebraska where she met Frederick Fastenau to whom she was married on 11-24-1887. The union was blessed with seven children.

She and her hsuband moved to Gosper County, Nebraska in 1891 and located on a homestead farm.

Here they found their spiritual home at Hope Lutheran Church.

After ther death of her husband on 7-18-1927, she bought a home in Bertrand, NE where she spent the last 15 years of her life with her youngest daughter, Minna.

In failing health for the past 3 years she was confined to the hospitalseveral times, but each time recovered enough to return to her home, but her strength failed gradually. She reached the age of 79 years, 7 months and 1 day.

She was survived by four sons, Herman, Thomas, Fred, Frank and three daughters, Bertha Stehl, Mrs Willima Ziebarth and Minna, 19 grandchildrenand 3 great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
