Loren Alvin THALMANN

Loren Alvin Thalmann was born in Ottertail on March 24, 1934, the son of Herman and Eleonora (Grefe) Thalmann.

He grew up at Ottertail and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ottertail. He attended St. John's Parochial School through the eighth grade and graduated from Henning High School with the Class of 1953.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958. He then worked for Oliver Mining Company in Eveleth, Minn., and also raised turkeys for Henning Hatchery.

He was united in marriage to Janice Tiede on Oct. 7, 1961, at St. John's Lutheran Church. They had three children.

They made their home on their farm at Ottertail until January of 1969 when they moved into Henning and opened Thalmann's Cafe, which they operated until August of 1973.

Loren began selling life insurance in April of 1960 and was active in the Thalmann Insurance Agency until his retirement on Oct. 31, 2008. Heloved selling the best insurance that was suited for his clients for 48years and kept in touch by calling them on their birthdays every year.

He liked to bowl, fry pancakes, fish, hunt, build birdhouses, play cards, and raise ducks and geese. He especially loved to go fishing with his little grandsons. Loren loved to take family vacations which includedBranson, Mo., Alaska, Hawaii, and many other areas of the United States.

Loren was active in Henning. He was a member of the Henning Volunteer Fire Department, the Commercial Club, Clement Manor board, Henning Homesboard, Henning Food Shelf, Henning Lions Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council, and he served 17 years on the Henning City Council.

Loren is survived by his wife: Janice; daughters, Lori Kay (Joe) Pytlikof Horace, N.D., and Becky Sue (Mark) Eisenwinter of St. Cloud;

grandsons: Ian and Evan Pytlik and step-grandchildren: Olivia, Aubree and Jake Eisenwinter;

sister, Elvera (Bernard) Sanders of DePere, Wis.;

brothers, Victor (Jackie) Thalmann of Grand Junction, Colo., and Roland(LaVey) Thalmann of Ottertail; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Judy) Tiede ofWadena, and Dana Tiede of Port St. John, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Craig Herman Thalmann on June 10, 1964; his parents, Herman and Eleonora; and a sister and brother-in-law,Elaine and Leonard Cloutier.
