Dietrich Heinrich BOLLAND

Dick was the son of JD "Henry" Bolland and Catherine Clasen.

J.D. Heinrich Bolland, brought his wife, Catherine (Clasen), and nine children from Germany in 1897. They settled southeast of Ottertail about3 miles on a farm.

JDH Bolland was educated in Germany. He left his native country to establish a new home in a new land. They landed in New York and at once came to Leaf Lake Township, where he purchased 400 acres of land, some horses, stock, and machinery for $7650. He added to this farm until he had, before his retirement, some 510 acres, about half of which was tillable. The farm was greatly improved under his management. The house was already built when he purchased the farm, but the barn and other buildings were erected under his supervision.

JDH and Catherine were the parents of Doris, Henry, Mary, Herman, Dick,Elsie, Katherine, Fritz, and John.

JDH was very active in politics in his native country.

One of his sons, Dick and his wife, Betty (nee Ohlrogge), reared five children: Walter, Herbert, Clara, Arnold, and Wilma on that farm.

Dick Bolland was born in Hanover, Germany, on Nov 1, 1881. He was educated in the common schools in Germany. He married Betty Ohlrogge on May23, 1911.

Dick purchased 225 acres of land from his father and, with the aid of his brother, Fritz, farmed this tract, as well as the balance of his father's original farm.

Herbert Bolland now owns much of the farmland and the farm buildings, including a newer home.
