Obituary William L. 'Bill' Recker, 85 of Findlay passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 2, 2020. He was born in Leipsic, Ohio on April 26, 1935 to the late Joseph and Agnes (Schroeder) Recker. He married Nancy (Loyer) on Nov. 28, 1957 and she survives. Also surviving are seven children, Joan (Douglas)Conine-Findlay, Cindy (Rick) Riggs-Findlay, Joe (Suzanne) Recker-Findlay, Patty (Eric) Campbell- White Sulfer Springs, Montana Michael (Suzi) Recker-Findlay, Jean (Alan) Cummins- Christiansburg, Virgina and Jane (Rick) Czekajewski-Dublin, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Jeannie)Recker, Tom (Lisa) Recker and Mark (Laurie) Recker; sisters, Jeanette (Jim) Kimmet, Sister Joan Marie Recker, Suzanne (Larry) Palte and Mary Jo (Dale) Hermiller. Bill was a graduate of Leipsic High School (1953). Bill began his career in farming at age 15 and was a life-long farmer. After marriage, Bill and Nancy rented a 160 acre dairy farm in Leipsic for 4 years. 1961 brought the family to Hancock County as they purchased a dairy farm, just 3 short years later, Bill was named the Findlay Jaycee's 'Outstanding Young Farmer' and in 1970 received the Northwest Ohio Dairy Efficiency Award. Bill believed it was great to have material success in your life, however, to be truly successful one has to give back to God, family, church and community. He lived this advice serving on the following boards: Board of Hancock County Commissioners (1985-1997), Arcadia Board of Education (8 years), Blanchard Valley Farmers Co-Op Board (9 years), Blanchard Valley Hospital Board (5 years), Hancock Soil & Water Conservation Board (9 years), Hancock County Red Cross Board, Hancock County United Way (6 years) Chair of New St. Michaels Church Construction Committee (2000-2003), Hancock Co. Dairy Service Unit Board, Arts Partnership Board, Appleseed Trail Vocational School Board, St. Michaels Church Council, Women Resource Center Board, Loudan Home Board, Blanchard Valley Center Board and the Bank One Advisory Board. In retirement, he was a school bus driver for Findlay City Schools, enjoyed woodworking and singing with the Millstream Singers. Bill and Nancy were 4-H advisors for 25 years for the Jr. Dairyman 4-H Club. One of their last acts of generosity was donating funds in 2018 to build a youth show arena at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Bill was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Indians fan as he rarely missed watching a game. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30am Saturday, August 8, 2020 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Bright Road, Findlay. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am Saturday at the church with Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family asks all in attendance to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The funeral mass will be live video stream at findlaystmichael.org. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the William and Nancy Recker Hancock Co. 4-H Fund in care of the Community Foundation, 101 W. Sandusky St. Suite 207, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
