Notes for this person
"Simon's wife, Louise, died December 24, 1873 leaving him with six children, rangin in age from 13 years to less than four years. Simon made a home for these childres, the oldest Amelia assuming the role of the mother, and the others helping at tasks both indorrs and out. They also attended a country school which was 1/2 mile from their home and attended a German United Evangelical Church 4 miles from their home. Some Sundays they walked the distance. Being poor, some of the older girls had only one dress between two of them, suitable to wear to church, which meant they could attend only every other Sunday. The family spoke Hi German." - from the Simonson Family Research.
