Lonnie James KIRKPATRICK

Lonnie J. Kirkpatrick, 80, Carmi, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008at his residence in Carmi. He was a longtime businessman and the owner and operator of Kirk Drilling Co. and Tartan Oil Co. Mr. Kirkpatrick was born Feb. 8, 1927 in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Hermon Volney and Blanche Eunice (Tryon) Kirkpatrick. He was married June 15, 1946 to Carol Jean "Jeanie" Roser, who died Nov. 21, 2002. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Carmi, Masonic Lodge 272 and the Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee Oil and Gas Associations. He was also a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a 1945 graduate of Carmi Township High School and a 1951 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, earning a bachelor of science degree in geology. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Butch Kirkpatrick of Galveston, Texas, and Brian and Holly Kirkpatrick of Carmi; two grandchildren, Haven and Derek Kirkpatrick of Carmi; and a great-grandson, Timothy Cash Kirkpatrick. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Kirkpatrick.
