EDINA (Mo.) SENTINEL, 5 Sept. 1929, p. 1 Charles Baldwin, best known as Charlie Baldwin, lifelong resident of near Plevna, a prominent famer and landowner as well as stockman, died at his home three-fourths of a mile west of Plevna at 11 o'clock Monday night at the age of 77. He had been in failing health three years, confined to his home since June and to his bed several weeks. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 2 o'clock yesterday aftemoon by the Rev. J. L. Shoemaker of LaPlata. The body was taken to the Novelty Cemetery for burial, the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a member, having charge. Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife and three children by a former marriage, Frank Baldwin, who lives on a farm adjoining the home place, Carl H. Baldwin of near Bethel and Willie, Mrs. J. W. Haden [sic], of Shelbina, and two nephews, Edward and Richard Ross, who made their home with him, and seven grandchildren and other relatives. A brother and sister preceded him in death. Mr. Baldwin had been one of the largest landowners of Knox County, but in recent years divided a portion of his property among his children. As a cattleman Mr. Baldwin specialized in Shorthorn cattle and raised saddle horses on his extensive holdings. Charles Baldwin was bom Dec. 2, 1851, on the farm where he grew up, lived and died the son of Charles H. and Ruth A. Baldwin. He married Miss Allie Hickman Oct. 9, 1873, and to them were born the three children who survive. His first wife died at the age of 35, forty years ago. Mr. Baldwin was again married Oct. 4, 1891, to Eva Ross and to them was born a son, Charlie, who died when 11 days old. At the age of 19 Mr. Baldwin united with the Christian Church. He was a member of Ark Lodge No. 6 A. F. & A. M. and of Ely Commandery No. 22 at Kirksville. Dr. and Mrs. George S. Brown, Mrs. and Mrs. C. M. Smith, Mrs. Effie L. Stauder of Edina and Mrs. Frank Cassell of Victoria, Tex., attended the services yesterday. Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Stauder are nieces of Mr. Baldwin.
