Notes for this person
George W. Schaeffer, 70, died at his home near Quicksburg, on Monday at 5:00 p.m. with dropsy. About three months ago, he broke his leg, since which time he could only get around a little with the aid of crutches. The confinement very likely hastened his end as his health had been gradually failing since the accident. Mr. Schaeffer was well known and esteemed by a number of our people. He married Miss. Annie Zirkle, daughter of John H. Zirkle, deceased, who survive him. He is also survived by the following children, Calvin Schaeffer, of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Mollie Curling, of Forestville, Mrs. Lula Thrice, of New Market, and Mrs. Laura Carper, and John, Charles and William Schaeffer, all of Quicksburg. He was a Confederate Soldier a member of the twelfth Va., Regiment. Four or five years ago, Mr. Schaeffer lived with his father in law for a year, moving back to Shenandoah, his native county, after the death of the latter. The funeral took place from his home on Tuesday.
