Mae Bostick ZIRKLE

Daily News Record, Sept. 3, 2002: Mae Zirkle Markey Sloan, 75, of Harrisonburg, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, following a brief illness. Mrs. Sloan was born June 13, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Walter Moffett and Mae Bostick Zirkle. She graduated from Harrisonburg High School and Madison College. She worked with her father at Virginia Craftsman, Inc., for many years. She was president of the Junior Woman's Club, a member of the Greenwood Garden Club and was a volunteer at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. In 1949, she married M.B. Markey Jr., who preceded her in death in April 1978. In January 1990, she married Richard Sloan, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Showalter and Patricia Real; a son, Walter Markey; a brother, Dr. Walter Zirkle; a sister, Natalie Sowers; and three grandchildren. Dr. William L. Mengebier will conduct a graveside service 10 a.m. Thursday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
