Published in the Northern Virginia Daily 12/08/2018 Lorraine Boyer Zirkle, 91, of Edinburg, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Services will be Monday, December 10, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, Edinburg, VA. Pastor Chris Seiders will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Lorraine was born April 6, 1927 in Fort Valley. She was the daughter of the late Ezra and Elsye Golladay Boyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (Mike) W. Zirkle; a brother, James Boyer; a sister, Betty Ludwig; and a grandson, Jason Smith. After graduating Edinburg High School at the age of 16, she lived with a dear aunt in the Washington, D.C. area where she worked at the U.S. Treasury Bureau during World War II. In the 1950's she was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club where she honed her love of cooking and sewing. For 32+ years, Shenandoah Telephone Company reaped the benefits of her talents in customer service. She served on the board of the Edinburg Historical Foundation and was recently named Board Member Emeritus. She was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Edinburg Old Time Festival. A lifelong member of the Church of God in Fort Valley, she served as Sunday School Treasurer for years. Known to all as a sweet and kind lady, always with a smile. She is survived by two daughters, Georga Bracken of New Market and Rebecca Zirkle of Edinburg; a sister, Natalie Blackwell of Chesterfield; three grandsons, Jeremy Rhoades, and Devon and William Smith; four great-grandsons, Micah, Levi, James and Matthew Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Allean Smith.
