Notes for this person
Marie Dorothee, the oldest daughter of Gerhard and Marie Dorothee worked as a maid. In 1883 her grandfather Heinrich Friedrich died and in 1887 her father Gerhard Stünkel also died. She worked at the house of Wilhelm Kollmann in Hamburg. He had been by the birth of his first child made into a widower. Marie Dorothee and Wilhelm fell in love with each other but Wilhelm now had to go into the military and do his service a long way from home. Marie Dorothee was pregnant and Wilhelm promised, in letters, that he would marry her when he eventually returned home.
He finally did come home!
Marie Dorothee had had her first son, Wilhelm Stünkel, born in 1888, however she was once again pregnant and this time definitely not from Wilhelm Kollmann! He sent her right back to Celle and regulated that support payments be made for the little Wilhelm.
Marie Dorothee’s second child was a girl named Emmi. The little Wilhelm kept calling her Emil {which I believe is a boy’s name and also his middle name?}. Both children grew up under the care of the grandmother during the time that the mother worked.
Emma or Emmi Stünkel had been born in 1891 and was the half sister of Wilhelm (Emil) Stünkel. She first married the painter Hermann Geese (1910) and had two daughters, Rosa and Gertrude. They immigrated to Brazil!
