Franz Ludwig Kohlmeier kam als Soldat von Bromberg nach Magdeburg und von dort aus zog er weiter in die Altmark nach Dolchau. Dort arbeitete er als Zimmermann u.a. auch zeitweise in Fleetmark, wohin er täglich zu Fuß unterwegs war.

Er war vom 07.11.1878 bis zum 22.09.1880 Musketier in der 7.Kompanie des 1.Magdeburgischem Infantierie-Regiments 26.
