Birth 1763 January, in Beuern bei Giessen, of Georg Philipp Rau , the Cantor, who was the father of Wilhelmina Rau who married Johann Ernst Knabenschuh in 1842. His birth date/location is known from his Butzbach death record - see event.

In the year of Christ 1828, on the 26th of February, just after 11 AM, died of a hernia illness Herr Georg Philipp Rau, Cantor and teacher of the first local Girls school, age 65 years and three weeks? He was born in Bauern bei [next to] Giesen, and devoted himself for forty years, first in Bobenhausen next to Ulrichtstein, than in Oberroßbach, and finally since 1811 in the local town [Butzbach], with admiration to the field of Educational. He was buried ceremonially and as per local customs on the 29th of the same month, in the afternoon around two o'clock in the presence of Herr Dr. Friedrich Weidig, the local Rector and Herr. Wilhelm Heß, the local Conrector, who besides myself, the Pastor who gave the eulogy in front of all, signed the present protocol in their own hands.

Death 1828 February 26th. of 'Cantor' Georg Philipp Rau in Butzbach ; the father of Wilhelmine Rau, who became the 3rd. wife of Johann Ernst Knabenschuh in 1842.
"In the year of Christ 1828, on the 26th. of February, just after 11 o'clock, died from Brüstkrankheit [Hernia], Herr Georg Philipp Rau, Cantor and Teacher at the first local Girls School, aged 65y 3weeks? [i.e. born 1763 January]. He was born in Beuern bei [nearby] Giessen, and devoted himself for forty years, first in Bobenhausen bei Ulrichstein [Stadt, Kr. Lauterbach], then in Oberroßbach [Kr.Dillkreis], and finally from 1811 in this town [Butzbach], with admiration in the field of Education. He was buried ceremoniously as per local customs on the 29th. of the same month, in the afternoon around two o'clock, in the presence of Herr Dr. Friedrich Weidig, the local Rector, and Herr. Wilhelm Heß, the local Conrector, who besides myself, the Pastor who presented the eulogy before all, signed this present Protokol in their own hand."

Comments This is a very interesting entry. It describes the life of Cantor Rau and associates him with the Grammer/Latin School where Friedrich Weidig was Rector. Weidig was a 'martry son of Butzbach in the Fight for Democracy'. It also suggests that these were likely the teachers of the Knabenschuh children-say Johann Ernst, Christian [III], and maybe Maria Sophia ; & the young Heinrich.
