Notes for this person

John immigrated to the United States with his parents and three siblings at age four. He left school at 10, and began working in the old woolen mill at Wabash. He worked there until he was 20, when he apprenticed to become a carpenter. Later he started a plumbing and heating business with his son. He was a Democrat, and served as a member of the city council from 1887 to 1889 and from 1910 to 1914. He became a Roman Catholic.
