Mr. Halvorsen was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Austin and Lucille (Berg) Halvorsen. Robert James Halvorsen obit: Robert James Halvorsen, 74, a long-time Klamath Falls businessman, died July 19, 1999, of cancer in Klamath Falls. He was raised in Coeur d'Alene until moving with his family to Mount Shasta when 14 years old and to Klamath Falls when he was 16 years old. While attending Klamath Union High School, he owned and operated a service station. After graduation in 1942, he entered the Army Air Corps, serving during Wrold War II. After being discharged as a lieutenant in 1945, he returned to Klamath Falls and opened another service station, which he continued to operate until 1965. Mr. Halvorsen then became a partner in Aladdin Valley Rental Service. He retired in 1979, but a short time later opeened Bob Halvorsen's Rentals and Sales that is now owned by his son. He married Louis Steinerson in Klamath Falls on May 27, 1945. He enjoyed work, chuch activities, including temple work and geneaology, elk hunting, fishing, the San Francisco 49ers professional football team, the Portland Trailblazers professional basketball team, having a clean car, and any activity in which his grandchildren were involved. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and Rotary Club and a member of a flying club at Kingsley Field. He also was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as first and second counselors for four bishops, as president and twice as executive secretary of the church's Sunday School, as a member of the high council and, for 10 years, as a temple ordinance worker for the Seattle Temple and later the Portland Temple. Survivors include his wife, Lois Halvorsen of Klamath Falls, son David Halvorsen of Klamath Falls, son and daughter-in-law Charles and Gwen Halvorsen of Klamath Falls, daughter and son-in-law Ruth and Paul Arnett of Boise Idaho, sister Barbara Prairie of Watsonville Calif., grandchildren Suzette, Holly, Christy, Kellie, R.J., Paul, Jennifer, Sarah, Joshua, Amy, Rachel, Austin and Natalie, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
