"Mrs. Belle Bly Dies at 99; Was Mother to 18 Children
Mrs. Bell Rose Bly, 99-year-old resident of Moberly, died at 11:55
o'clock last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom Swetnam, 719
West End Place.
Mrs. Bly was born in Chariton County but had lived in the Moberly area
for 83 years. She appeared on the television program "It Could Be You",
in 1961. A member of the Carpenter Street Baptist Church, she lived
through four wars. Her husband, Francis A. Bly, died in 1934. She was
a mother to 18 children -- 13 of her own and five step-children.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Swetnam and Mrs. Mary Burger of
Moberly; five sons, Leo Bly of Brookfield, Tom Bly of Peoria, Ill., Roy
Bly of Raytown and Adolph and Ben Bly of Kansas City; one step-daughter,
Mrs. Frances Wood of Raytown; one step-son, William Bly of [Sue] City,
Iowa; and 98 grandchildren, great grandchildren and g-g-grandchildren
including Richard Eugene Andrews of Moberly.
The body is at the Cater Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held
at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Carpenter Street Baptist Church by
the Rev. Charles Hendrickson, pastor. Burial will be in Oakland
Cemetery.
