"F.A. BLY, FATHER OF 18 CHILDREN, DIES
5 Daughters, 7 Sons Survive Well Known Farmer, Native of Sweden
F.A. Bly, 80, a native of Sweden who had lived in Randolph County 57
years, died at 10:30 o'clock last night at his home six miles east of
Moberly. He had been ill the past five years.
Mr. Bly, whose full name was Francis Adolph, was born November 1,
1854, in Skofde, Sweden. He reared his family of 18 children on the
farm on which he died.
He is survived by his widow, five daughters and seven sons. The
daughters are Hilda Clark and Mrs. Frances Wood of Bonner Springs, Kas.,
Mrs. Anna Goings, Nowata, Okla., and Mrs. Fern White and Mrs. Mary
Andrews, Moberly. The sons are Ben Bly, Everett Bly and Adolph Bly of
Kansas City, Leo, Roy and Tom Bly of Moberly, and Len Bly of Sioux City,
IA. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews of Moberly and Kansas City.
Mr. Bly came to this country when he was about 21 years old with a
brother, the late A.J. Leavene, and a sister, the late Mrs. Arnold
Anderson. His first wife, Mrs. Charlotte Christina Bly, whom he married
during a visit to his native land, died following the birth of their
fifth child. The surviving wife is the former Belle Rosie McCart of
Chariton County.
Mr. Bly was reared and schooled in the Lutheran faith but was for
years a member of the Salem Christian Church near his farm home.
The body will remain at the home until the funeral hour. Funeral
services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the
Mahan Funeral Home by the Rev. L.H. Smith, pastor of the Gospel
Tabernacle, East Logan Street. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Francis Bly came to the U.S. in 1879; he was naturalized in 1900.

In the 1880 Randolph co., MO census he was listed as Franz Bly, age 25,
born in Sweden; was alone and was enumerated as a laborer with the
Leonard J. Grimes family.

The Bly farm was about six miles east of Moberly, MO.

His sister, Mary C. Bly, married Arne Andersen on 25 Oct 1879 in
Randolph co., MO; both were of Moberly when they married.
- His ancestral home in Sweden is #14 in Vamb Parish, Skovda according to
Sharon Kelley
