The Pantagraph Bloomington, Illinois Thursday, September 24, 1987: Frank E. Zirkle, 75, of Onarga, a retired contractor and co-founder of a construction company, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 22, 1987), his birthday, at Greenbrier Lodge, Piper City. Mr. Zirkle was born Sept. 22, 1912, in rural Piper City, a son of John B. and Henrietta Schunke Zirkle. He married Maybelle Kammermann on April 5, 1941, at Roberts. She survives. Other survivors include one son, David, Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Connie Freich, Crystal Lake; three brothers, William, Onarga; Charles, Danforth; and Clyde, Oilman; one sister, Ferne Watson, Cissna Park; and two grandchildren. One , brother preceded him in death. Mr. Zirkle worked for many years with Corn Belt Construction Co., the business he founded with Lloyd Thorne. They did construction work throughout the state. During World War II, he was a chief warrant officer with the Seabee, construction battalions of the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. Mr. Zirkle served for many years on the board of directors of the Onarga Savings & Loan Association and was a former member of the board of the Onarga Division of Morris Savings & Loan Association. He was a former member of the Onarga District Board of Education. He formerly served as secretary of the Onarga Chamber of Commerce and served for many years on the Grand Prairie Seminary board of trustees. Mr. Zirkle served as a member of the board of trustees and secretary of the Onarga Fire Protection District for many years. He was a member of the Onarga United Methodist Church and was past master of the Onarga Masonic Lodge 305.
