Charles Edward Zirkle Sr., 82, of Gilman, died Monday (April 27, 1998) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Burial will be in Gilman Cemetery. He was born Oct. 29, 1915 in Piper city, the son of John and Henrietta Schunke Zirkle. Mr. Zirkle was a farmer and had been employed by the Gilman Grain Elevator. His wife, the former Opal Marie Blan, whom he married July 14, 1935, died Feb.18, 1995. Surviving are five daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley and Don Strode of North Aurora, Bern and Bill Lephiew of Warren, Ark., Patricia and Arnold Meyer of Gilman, Glenda Johnson of Bourbonnais and Sandy Tilley of DuQuoin; one son, Charles Zirkle Jr. of Batavia; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde Zirkle of Gilman; and one sister, Fern Watson of Gilman.
