Published in the Olney Advocate, Thursday, April 21, 1949: Mrs. Minnie Zerkel, age 81, the widow of Frank Zerkel, of 223 North East street, passed away Sunday night. She and Mr. Zerkel moved to Olney 16 years ago from the St. Paul's church neighborhood east of Dundas. Mr. Zerkel died on Sept 2, 1944. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lola Calvert of Olney, Mrs. C. W. Burgener of East St. Louis, Mrs. T. C. Hinkle Jr. of East St. Louis, and Mrs. Lea Frost of Olney. There are 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Alvin Wickham of Olney is a brother and Mrs. Eva Canny of Osage, Iowa is a sister. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran church, with Rev. H. C. Peterson assisted by Rev. Fred Heckathorn, in charge. Interment was at St. Paul's cemetery.
