Vernie Fred Antholz, 72, a resident of Colonial Acres Nursing Home, died Wednesday morning November 18, 1987, at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, NE.
Vernie, the son fo Henry and Minnie Dirks Antholz, was born March 10, 1915 at Johnson,Nemaha, NE. He was one of 5 children. Vernie was baptized in infancy in the Martin Luther Church and was confirmed in the samechurch. He attended District 44 rural school near his home, and grew toyoung manhood in the same community.
He served with the U.S. Army from Oct. 16, 1941 to Nov. 1, 1945. He wasoverseas all that time. He received his discharge at Fort Logan, CO. He was awarded the Pacific Service Medal. Philippines Liberation Ribbon.Good Conduct Medal. WW II Victory Medal and the American Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 269 at Humboldt,NE.
On Feb. 22, 1947, he was married to Allene Rockemann. They have residedin Richardson County since their marriage.
Vernie was a farmer and livestock producer and retired in 1975. In 1978, Vernie and Allene bought a small acreage where they lived. He had been in poor health since Aug. 6, 1979, after suffering a series of strokes. He had been a resident at Colonial Acres nursing home since Dec. 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his wife Allene, two daughters, Mrs. Dianna Ohland, Salem, OR. and Debra of Humboldt; three sons, Dwayne of Bloomingtron, MN. Dennis of Pawnee City and Darrell of Eagle, NE. 2 daughter-in-laws and 5 grandchildren. 2 brothers, Mervin of Elgin, IL. and Lester of Omaha, NE. and manya other relatives and friends.
Funerla servies were held at the Wherry Bros. Chapel in Humboldt, on Friday, Nov. 20, 1987 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Lee Louderback officiating.
Pallbearers were Bob Albright, Jim Bobett, Bob Bruun, Harold Johnson, Robert Coonce, Oliver Stalder, Hugh Gibbs,Jr. and Jim Wilhelm.
Burial was in the Humboldt Cemetery, Humboldt, NE.
